As i said in a previous comment, i’m in the midst of getting an attenuator (already tried the OX to get it outta way) and my next choice would have been the Tone King. I wasn’t even considering the Rockcrusher since there’s not a lot of input about it but now even the Alex and the Rockcrusher sounded miles better to the Iron Man.

Messages. 17,849. Dec 28, 2019. #2. Properly functioning load boxes and or attenuators are not going to hurt your amp regardless of reactive load or not. That said, people have a tendency to crank the amp much higher than they normally would. So you will work the tubes harder, etc.

In before someone recommends the Power Station. I haven't tried the Rivera attenuator. I have the Dr. Z. It works very well on amps that are 4 ohms, decently with 8 ohms and barely makes a dent on 16 ohm amps. Not a lot of loss in quality until you reach the rheostat for bedroom use. I'm currently waiting on a 16 ohm THD hotplate ($200ish

I owned a lot of attenuators, including the Weber, Hotplate, Alex's, and a few others. The Rockcrusher was noticeably better than the Alex's, and lots better than the others. I don't need an attenuator right now, but if I needed another, I would go buy another Rockcrusher without a moment's hesitation. M.

I like the Rivera because it has an attenuator for when I use my cab. However 90% of the time I’ll probably be using it without a cab using only the load and IRs (Ownhammer or Celestion) to send to FOH and in ear monitors. If the Suhr is that much better, I’ll just get it and another attenuator for gigs when I’m using my cab.

Messages. 19. May 29, 2022. #1. Hi there, I have a JCM 800 that has only 4/8 ohms output (No 16 ohms) and I have a 1960 cab that is 4/16 ohms. The Rivera Rockcrusher can be used at 8 ohms or 16 ohms. I know about safe mismatch and that kinda stuff but not knowing what the design is behind the Rockcrusher, I'm wondering if it's OK
